The newest rendition of the old Rudyard Kipling tell of The Jungle Book was released on April 15th 2016.The original movie came out in 1942 and you can watch it on youtube if you want to see what old cinematography was like during world war 2. Actually I thought it was quite compelling. This new film is an animated version of the original Walt Disney cartoon The Jungle Book released in 1967.

junglebookThe Walt Disney original film was a cartoon in movie format and was basically a lighthearted comical rendition of the original work. The 1967 version is fun and easy for the whole family to watch, get you a DVD version and watch it, you will be glad you did (not available on youtube except excerpts). Anyway back to the present released animated version of The Jungle Book (also released by Walt Disney productions). it was awesome in a word. The film pretty much followed the story line with just a few exceptions.

The main characters are as follows: Neel Sethi played the man cub “Mowgli” and was the only human character in the movie, which must have been kind of difficult acting against a green screen. Ben Kingsley played Bagheera the black leopard and protector of Mowgli. Idiris Elba played the heavy in the movie “Shere Khan” the Bengal tiger and arch nemesis of “Mowgli” who stalks him throughout the movie with the plan of ridding the jungle of the dreaded mancub (this is the liberal part of the film where man doesn’t belong in the jungle and will ultimately destroy it). I know I digress, back to the movie, Bill Murray speaks the part of one of the most endearing characters in the movie “Baloo The Bear”. Of the main characters the last but certainly not the least is “King Louie” the gigantopithecus (latin for giant Asian ape) and this is where this version departs from the original cartoon. In the cartoon this was a lighthearted sing along but in the much more serious animated movie “King Louie” is truly gigantic and scary, he makes King Kong look like a sock monkey!! Christopher Walkin played the voiceover character for “KingLouie”.

Anyway the new rendition of The Jungle Book followed the same plot lines as the original just in a more serious way. The animation was indeed second to none as would be expected from a Walt Disney production. Overall a very good movie and the whole family should enjoy it!!
