Captain America: Civil War

5flags5 out of 5 stars

If I had to describe "Captain America: Civil War" in one word, I think it would be “wow.” It is quite possibly my new favorite Marvel movie. Well, actually I think it IS my new favorite Marvel movie…maybe even my number one superhero movie in general. You would think Marvel would be showing signs of slowing down and boring us with the same formula over and over again, but this time they went a refreshingly new route – who needs villains (enemies) when you have friends?
Usually these massive scale blockbusters have so much going on, it’s hard to get personal…but that is not the case here. It deals with the topics of revenge, forgiveness, doing what you feel is right (and ironically how that leads to turmoil – make of that what you will), and freedom.
And one thing that blew me away is how NONE of the superheroes felt forced, or rushed into the script. They all shined equally bright. I was afraid Spiderman would be shoe-horned in, but holy hell, I was wrong. Quite possibly the best Spiderman that has ever graced the silver screen. Plus the fight scenes and choreography, and the way the Russo brothers filmed and executed it was nearly flawless. Gritty, raw fighting intertwined with a compelling story is a recipe for a good time.
I was surprised when I couldn’t find a single con to Deadpool, and really thought it would be the only movie this year to be, well, conless. But somehow, 2016 has surprised us with a second movie this year where I personally can’t find a single reason to complain. I won’t list all the pros, because then I’d be here writing this all day.
Oh yeah, I like how they didn’t vilify one team over the other. They presented both sides of the argument really well. And there’s this one scene that REALLY packs an emotional punch, that no matter whose side you’re on, you’ll probably gonna say “Tear him to shreds!” – at least that was the case with me. Funny how the power of emotions can cloud your judgement.
