Memorial Day 2017
“Lest you not forget our fallen comrades that paid the ultimate price for your Freedom”, I,”THE MINUTEMAN”, will attempt to inform my Patriot audience some of the history of this momentous holiday. I really think at least half of our brethren in the United States have nary a clue what this holiday means other than it marks the beginning of the summer season and that it is a 3-day weekend. I am not sure if they even know it marks the beginning of summer, they are so totally uninformed and ignorant!!
The brief history of this particular holiday begins shortly after the war between the states (aka Civil War), in which loved ones of the fallen soldiers went to the cemeteries and put flowers on their graves, it was first referred to as Decoration Day, for the practice of adorning the graves. Memorial Day is an American holiday that is celebrated on the last Monday in May. It didn’t become an official federal holiday until 1971. During this holiday many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries, memorials, participating in parades and familial gatherings. One interesting fact I discovered was the Boy Scouts were the group credited for putting flags on graves; back in 1951.
Anyway, this holiday really hit home while I was listening to Sean Hannity and heard him play a song that really tugs at your heartstrings, to say the least, it is called “From West-Point to Arlington”, sung by Ward Davis and co-written by Sean Niquette in reference to a fallen Green Beret in Afghanistan. The link to the song and youtube video is as follows: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fia5G3qYzk The song speaks of a young Captain (Capt. Andrew Pedersen Keel) who was cold-bloodedly gunned down by a supposedly friendly Afghan interpreter/soldier. Another song of interest also with Arlington in its name by Trace Adkins and the link is as follows: Trace has a caption on his youtube song that says it all: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9IjjUCFFmg “To the men and women of our Armed Forces stationed around the globe …. And to those who are no longer with us…. Who gave the ultimate sacrifice……. Another song that comes to mind is a song by Billy Ray Cyrus and I think his best: “All Gave Some…..But Some Gave All”!!! Truly all three of these songs make the point that all Patriots should forever remember and honor our fallen heroes, not just on Memorial Day but everyday!! Remember Patriots “America” Home Of The Free , Because Of The Brave, Also”America” Home Of The Free, In Spite Of The Liberals (My New Catch Phrase)!!!!
